Team Banquet
May 1st, 2025
|
|
Our team came together for a beautiful evening to celebrate all we accomplished—not just as a team, but as a family. Our annual banquet was more than just a dinner; it was a chance to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared, the obstacles we’ve overcome, and the memories we’ve made together.
The room was filled with laughter, gratitude, and more than a few tears. Coaches and mentors, whose dedication and love fuel everything we do, delivered speeches that reminded us just how far we’ve come. Their words carried the weight of late nights, hard lessons, and triumphs we’ll never forget. And when Andy Heikes stood to speak, his heartfelt message struck a chord in each of us. His voice echoed with pride, humility, and the deep connection we all feel to this team. One of the most emotional moments of the night came as we said goodbye to our incredible seniors. With hugs, and applause, we honored their legacy—their leadership, passion, and countless hours poured into Team LASER. Their absence will be deeply felt, but their impact will continue to guide us for years to come. We already miss them more than words can say. |

Sunshine for Seniors Delivery
April 3rd, 2025
|
|
Our team recently had the heartfelt opportunity to make another delivery as part of our Sunshine for Seniors initiative. Each time we embark on these deliveries, we are reminded of the core values that define us as a Lake Area robotics team. Today’s delivery, especially with the excitement of Worlds just around the corner, held even greater significance for us.
Nestled in the heart of our community, we visited the Lake Parke Living Center, where we brought bright, cheerful flowers to brighten the day of memory care patients and other residents. As we walked through the facility, the warm smiles and grateful expressions we encountered reaffirmed the importance of our mission. These moments of connection allow us to pause and reflect on what truly matters—our commitment to supporting and uplifting our community like a big family. Engaging with the residents not only calms our pre-competition nerves but also reminds us of the impact we can make beyond the robotics arena. It’s a beautiful blend of service and technology, and we are honored to play a role in bringing a little sunshine into their lives. |

FRC Kickoff
January 4, 2025
|
Following a lunch break, we gathered to watch this year’s Kickoff video and dive into the game manual, reviewing the new rules and challenges ahead. Armed with this information, we broke into groups to brainstorm robot design ideas, later regrouping to present and refine our concepts.
To close out the day, we returned to our subgroups to start turning ideas into action. The Impact team brainstormed themes for our essay and video, while the Build team began CADing, designing, and creating a materials list for the proto-bot. |
This year’s Kickoff was packed with excitement, collaboration, and—most importantly—strategizing for the season ahead!
We kicked off the day with a team-building challenge, working in small groups to construct a structure using select materials. The goal? To design something that could travel the farthest when propelled by wind! After the challenge, we split into our subgroups (Impact, Build, Strategy, and Programming) to discuss our vision for the season and how we plan to tackle it. |

Special Education Mentoring
November 11, 2024
|
|
LASER recognized that several groups within our school lack representation, with one of the most underserved being special education students.
For our team, FIRST has united people from all walks of life, creating friendships that may not have formed otherwise. With that in mind, we saw FLL Robotics as the perfect opportunity to foster inclusivity and ensure that every student has a place in our community. So, throughout this season we have been mentoring and teaching these students how to program and build FLL robots. |

School of the Osage Showcase
October 17, 2024
Team LASER 3284 recently visited School of the Osage to showcase the many facets and benefits of robotics, aiming to inspire students and provide them with the opportunity to get involved in STEM. During the event, our team demonstrated how robotics combines engineering, programming, problem-solving, and teamwork, offering hands-on experiences that encourage creativity and innovation. By sharing our passion for FIRST and STEM education, we hoped to spark interest among students who may not have previously considered robotics as an option.
Our visit was focused on making robotics accessible to everyone, regardless of background or experience. We highlighted the diverse opportunities within a robotics team, from coding and mechanical design to business and outreach, ensuring that every student could see a place for themselves in the program. By expanding awareness and providing mentorship, LASER 3284 is dedicated to growing the FIRST community and inspiring the next generation of problem-solvers at School of the Osage.

This year, LASER students made a "photo frame" to take pictures with featuring group photos from throughout the season at Cowtown, Oklahoma, and London along with baby photos to remind students of how far they've come as people and friends. Pictured to the left are some of LASER's girls that will be graduating in the 2025 class. Happy first day!
