Holiday Care Packages

During the 2021-22 season, LASER has partnered with local nursing homes and cancer center to donate care packages during the holidays in order to aid with mental health set backs due to COVID-19 with the residents. Through these partnerships, LASER has donated over 300 themed packages for Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day.

FIRST® Flowers

FIRST® Flowers is an initiative that was founded by Camdenton LASER 3284 in 2021 after the team recognized the mental health setbacks their community experienced after the pandemic. These students chose to focus on the groups in their community that were isolated during the pandemic including cancer patients and nursing home residents. The goal of FIRST® Flowers is to create smiles and show these community members that someone cares even when they are isolated from their family. The students on this team create bouquets with flowers and vases that have been donated. The bouquet is paired with a handmade card with special notes written inside. This program is not possible without the support of the community. 3284 relies on donations from their community members to keep this program going. LASER 3284 is always accepting donations of flowers and vases of any kind.

Kick-Off

On January 8th, LASER 3284 celebrated the new season, we started early in the morning with donuts, then rapidly started brainstorming, studying the game manual, and prototyping.

FTC Meet

This year, LASER hosted and ran its first FTC® Meet at the Camdenton Middle School. Numerous 3284 members volunteered to help support the 18 team event, where both Camdenton LASER FTC® teams competed.

U.S. Navy Demonstration

3284 was honored to invite members of the US Navy to our shop and demonstrate all aspects of what our team is capable of! This tour led to a U.S. Navy Sponsorship to LASER for the 2022 competition season.

STEM Day at the Capitol
March 3, 2022

LASER traveled to the Missouri State Capitol on March 3rd for STEM day. LASER demonstrated all five progressions of FIRST® to the public, and also held the FLL® Capitol Cup tournament, met with the Missouri State Governor and Missouri Representative Suzie Pollock, along with others to share and advocate for LASER and FIRST® Robotics.

FLL Explore Expo

LASER hosted and ran the annual Central Missouri FLL® Explore Expo at Osage Beach Elementary. LASER members volunteered, helping to ensure all 16 teams competing had fun while competing like crazy.

Shawnee, Oklahoma Regional
March 9-12, 2022
|
3284 started their 2021-22 season at the Shawnee, Oklahoma regional competing against 43 other teams from 5 different states. LASER ended the regional ranked 40th and was honored to receive the prestigious Impact (formally Chairman's) Award along with an UL Safety Star.

Cedar Falls, Iowa Regional
March 23-26, 2022
|
LASER's second regional of the 2021-22 season was Cedar Falls, Iowa on March 23 - 26th. 3284 ranked 9th among 45 other teams from 7 different states. LASER was moved to 6th seated alliance captain where they were joined by 6420 and 3026. LASER was defeated by the 3rd seated alliance but won the UL Safety Star and the honorable Judge's Award.

African Sky Partnership

Beginning in 2022, 3284 partnered with an all female orphanage in Cameroon through the organization African Sky. Through this partnership 3284 has worked with the program directors to create educational lessons and activities based on STEM to meet he learning needs of the girls. This partnership has given all participants the opportunity to create relationships internationally. 3284 looks forward to continuing this relationship!
Central Missouri Regional
March 31- April 3, 2022
LASER competed at their final regional in Central Missouri with 27 other teams from 5 different states. 3284 was ranked 14th and chosen by the 6th seated alliance. 3284 was awarded the UL Safety Star along with the Engineering Inspiration Award. FRC Head Coach, Jim Jackson, was presented with the Woodie Flowers due to his commitment and love for the FIRST® program and his team.
World Championship
April 20- 23, 2022
LASER was honored with the prestigious Impact (formally Chairman's) Award at the Shawnee, Oklahoma Regional, which qualified them for the 2021-22 season World Championship. 3284 was grateful to receive the Innovation in Control award and 21st place overall in the Carver division against 77 other teams from all around the world. LASER's Safety Captain, Rayne, was awarded with the UL Safety Star for her commitment to the teams safety!
Year End Celebration

LASER has made mental health a priority on their team and throughout their community. In order to better understand mental health, LASER members have met with various organizations such as Compass Health, Health Occupations Students of America, and Missouri State Representative, Suzie Pollack. These meetings have helped 3284 spread awareness in their community and on social media as well as working towards passing legislation in 2023.
